As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the country, National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child.

With your support last year, our Holly Spring Elementary PTA once again helped our children be safe, healthy, and successful.

Here are 2009-2010 Holly Springs Elementary PTA program highlights ...

pawprint Applause, applause! Cultural Arts enriched our children's education with performances by Folk Musician Timmy Abell, Professor Time Sean Driscoll, The Touring Theater of NC, Garry Krinsky and Doug Berky by Capital Opera, Jonathan Daniels, Mad Vocals, Rags to Riches, and Sones de Mexico.

pawprint O'Holly Night was once again a wonderful family event filled with fun, games, singing, and beautiful classroom-sponsored raffle baskets. We raised $10,000 for our teachers to buy items for our classrooms.

pawprint We continued to encourage our students to read through a $6,000 donation to the Media Center from our Book Fair and Read-A-Thon. We also helped complete a very special reading garden between the first and second grade hallways.

pawprint We provided the school with over $5,000 to offset a budget shortfall, which was used to support field trips and purchase 3 document cameras for classrooms. We also added a teacher grant program this past year and awarded over $1,000 to 4 teachers.

pawprint The Hospitality committee sponsored monthly events for our teachers and staff, sponsored teacher appreciation week, held a tissue tea for our kindergarten parents, and hosted dinners at the general PTA meetings.

pawprint Our Character Education program helped to build kids with character with dozens of parent volunteers delivering over 300 character conversation lessons in classrooms August through April.

pawprint The Cycle/Recycle Fair taught bike safety and encouraged recycling, while the Science Fair fueled curious minds with hands-on activities and over 70 student participants.

pawprint The PTA sponsored many other great programs and events such as the Talent Show, Safety Patrol, Student Store, Kids Voting, and the Reflections arts recognition program.

There's so much planned for the 2010-2011 Holly Springs Elementary PTA. Please visit often for the latest calendar of pawprint Events.
